As part of the transition of St. Mary's IT infrastructure to UCSF from CommonSpirit, UCSF IT made telephone changes across St. Mary’s hospital, effective Oct. 4. Please review the changes below.

What changed Oct. 4

Internal 6-digit dialing was replaced with new 5-digit internal extensions. A directory of frequently called departments is available here.

Users have new voicemail boxes. Instructions for accessing UCSF voicemail and resetting PINs can be found below.

Continue to use 2299 extension for clinical and non-clinical code activations. For all other emergencies, dial 9-911 or 911.

What didn't change Oct. 4

10-digit phone numbers remain the same. Only frequently called department numbers were assigned 5-digit extensions.

Physical Cisco desk phones will not be replaced with new devices.

How to access voicemail
Users have new UCSF voicemail boxes. Learn about UCSF voicemail here. Voicemail greetings were migrated. If you had a greeting, it was transferred to the UCSF system.
Voicemail messages left before Oct. 4 will be available until Oct. 31. Retrieve CommonSpirit voicemails by calling 9-1-480-676-6099 and using your CommonSpirit PIN.
Accessing new UCSF voicemail
Follow these steps to access the new UCSF voicemail system with your new PIN:
1. Call the UCSF voicemail access number at 415-476-6000 or 66000 from a Cisco phone.
2. If you are asked for your ID, enter your 10-digit phone number.
3. Enter your temporary PIN when prompted. Temporary PIN: 111111.
4. Follow the prompts to record your name and new standard greeting.
5. Follow the prompts to change your PIN.
Internal and outbound dialing instructions
Internal dialing
Calling from a St. Mary’s Cisco phone to another St. Mary’s Cisco phone has changed. Reminder: 6-digit internal dialing is discontinued, effective Oct. 4. Please see this flyer for dialing instructions and voicemail access information.
To call a St. Mary’s extension from a St. Mary’s Cisco phone:

Dial the complete 10-digit phone number (e.g. dial 415-514-0000)
or -
Call frequently dialed departments that have newly assigned 5-digit extensions (e.g. 92222). A directory of frequently called departments is available here.
Operators and nurses’ stations directing inbound family calls to patient rooms need to dial a 10-digit extension number. Please see the directory 10-digit patient room extensions here.
For emergencies, use the 2299 extension for clinical and non-clinical code activations and 9-911 or 911 for all other emergencies.
External dialing

For calls from a St. Mary’s Cisco phone to a number outside the UCSF system, dial 9-1, then the 10-digit number (e.g., dial 91-415-668-1000).

For emergencies, call 911 or 9-911.

To call internationally, dial 9011 + country code + area code + phone number (e.g., dial 9011+91+11+33667777 (India).
