Overview
UCSF requires an Active Directory (AD) account to register for and complete APeX training and for access to APeX.
If you do not currently have UCSF Active Directory (AD) account access credentials (username and password), please email [email protected]. Put "SFSM AD Account Login" in the subject line and include "AssignmentGroup = ITS_TA_Identity_Management" and your full legal name in the body.
Once you've been provided with your UCSF AD account information, see below to learn how to create your password.
Notes:
- Your UCSF Active Directory (AD) account is not the same thing as a UCSF email account. For information regarding UCSF email accounts, see Email and Other Business Tools for Physicians.
- Access to APeX will be granted after APeX training completion, on and/or after the October 4, 2025 APeX go-live.

Application Login Prompts
All UCSF applications are hosted on the UCSF network, and are supported by different single sign-on (SSO) platforms. Consequently, users may be prompted to log in with their UCSF account information again when accessing a new application.
Users may also be asked to log in again when opening an application in a private browser tab and/or if it has been more than 16 hours since they last accessed the application.
Need Assistance?
If you have any questions or issues with Account Activation or setting up Duo MFA, please consult the UCSF IT Service Desk page.
